How To Read This Blog
I’ll try to get to PhotoJournalism Tips today, but first . . .
Here is a great explanation of how to use a blog reader. I found it in my blog reader this morning.
I decided to post this since Piper says only 6% of users use a blog reader. This is a revolutionary tool that you need to be using. Oh, and here’s a fantastical video presentation called RSS in Plain English for those of you who don’t like to read!
My Google Reader is part of my iGoogle homepage that shows me everything I need . . .

Here’s what else you see on my home page . . .
- The global map is a theme I currently have on my home page that shows me where the world is light and where it is dark at the moment. Very fun.
- Google Reader in the top left. This is my RSS blog reader. I have like 100 blog subscriptions that feed into that thing. Some of your blogs are on it.
- Gmail. I have a couple of different email addresses. Gmail is awesome!
- Bookmarks. The ones I visit more often are bold.
- Top Stories. Google News Feed.
- Calendar. Google’s Calendar is awesome. My office manager, Laressa, and I can all edit this calendar from separate locations. Genius.
Other things you don’t see but are there when I scroll down . . .
- Countdown. It’s 121 days to kickoff.
- Live Weather. I get current weather and a three-day forecast in a little box. More if I click through.
- Word of the Day.
- Quote of the Day. It’s a feed from quotationspage.com. This is the best quote site. I search for terms on this site for the “Quote of the Day” on this blog.
- Dictionary.com I can enter a word into a box and it automatically enters it into dictionary.com and shows me the definitions.
- Wikipedia.com This little box is the same as Dictionary.com only it doesn’t take you to Dictionary.com!
- Google Map Search.
- Movie Showtimes. Shows me what’s playing at the theater 10 blocks from my house.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event.” - Oscar Wilde
